Indications
Certain conditions involving the front layers of the cornea can be treated with excimer laser PTK. Abnormal corneal lesions such as keratoconus nodules or Salzmann’s nodular degeneration generally respond well to PTK. Many inherited corneal opacities such as Reis-Bucklers, granular and lattice dystrophies, along with some corneal scars also do well with PTK. The advantage of using this laser to treat these corneal problems compared to a blade is that the laser has the ability to shave off a precise pattern of tiny amounts of tissue to both clear and smooth the corneal surface to improve vision and comfort.
Procedure
PTK is performed in the Wills Laser Center using anesthetic drops.
