The Uveitis fellow will receive a thorough experience in the diagnosis and medical management of all types of infectious and inflammatory uveitis as well as scleritis, mucous membrane pemphigoid, and orbital inflammatory disease. The fellow will learn to give regional (periorbital, intravitreal, and suprachoroidal) steroid injections. Depending on the level of interest, extensive exposure to uveitic cataract surgery and/or basic vitreoretinal techniques such as vitreous biopsies will be provided. The uveitis fellow will also work closely with the first-year vitreoretinal fellows at Wills.
Uveitis Fellowship Director
Dr. Deaner graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh. He received his medical degree from Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University and He completed his ophthalmology residency at Wills Eye Hospital. Dr. Deaner went on to complete a uveitis fellowship at Cole Eye Institute of the Cleveland Clinic followed by a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at Duke University Eye Center. As a vitreoretinal fellow, he was awarded two of the highest national honors, the Heed Ophthalmic Foundation Fellowship Award and the Ronald G. Michels Retinal Fellowship Foundation Award.
Director, Uveitis Unit
Dr. Dunn received his undergraduate degree from Amherst College before graduating from The University of Medicine and Dentistry-New Jersey Medical School in Newark, NJ. He then completed an internship in internal medicine at The North Carolina Baptist Hospital/Wake Forest University, followed by a residency in ophthalmology at New York University. He subsequently undertook fellowships in Cornea and External Disease at the Jules Stein Eye Institute/UCLA School of Medicine and Cornea and Uveitis at the Francis I. Proctor Foundation/UC San Francisco. Dr. Dunn established the Uveitis Unit within the Retina Division at Wills in 2014. He also serves as the Residency Program Director at Wills.
Dr. Fell graduated from New York University and completed his medical school training at the SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine in Stony Brook, NY. After completing his ophthalmology residency at University of Texas Southwestern, he pursued a uveitis fellowship at Cole Eye Institute in Cleveland, OH and a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at Tufts Medical Center and Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston in Boston, MA.
