BIOSTATISTICS
Qiang (Ed) Zhang, MD, PhD

Director, Biostatistics Consulting Core,
Vickie and Jack Farber Vision Research Center, Wills Eye Hospital
Research Professor, Ophthalmology and Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University

Dr. Zhang received his PhD in Biostatistics from the University of Texas at Houston School of Public Health and MD Anderson Cancer Center after his medical training in China. In 2009, Dr. Zhang joined the NRG Oncology Group, one of four NCI-funded cooperative groups in the United States, as Team Leader and Senior Statistician for 15 large-scale, national Head and Neck cancer and sarcoma trials funded by NCI.
He has over 100 (70 high impact) publications including novel statistical methods for the design and analysis of clinical trials, biomarkers/prognostic factors in head and neck cancer and eye diseases, etc. His research primarily focuses on the design, interim and final analysis of late phase clinical trials and analysis of correlated data in vision research from both statistical and machine learning perspectives.
Dr. Zhang has collaborated extensively with investigators across a broad range of clinical, basic science and biostatistical/AI expertise at different universities nationally and internationally in the areas of survival analyses, longitudinal/correlated data. He has also collaborated with colleagues from NCI and other institutions on developing and refining tools for clinical trial design and monitoring, especially recently for eye diseases.
As Research Professor, Director of the Biostatistics Consulting Core, Lead Biostatistician, a member of the Ophthalmology Informatics Program and the ACORN lab, Dr. Zhang provides methodological, biostatistical/AI consultation, collaboration, and support for research activities conducted at Wills Eye Hospital and in collaborations with other national institutions including Jefferson, U. Penn, etc. and internationally.
