After receiving exceptional care at Wills Eye Hospital, Sean O'Neill and his family developed a deep appreciation for the physicians and care teams dedicated to treating patients with ocular cancer. Following Sean's passing, his wife, Sharon, found a meaningful way to honor his memory while giving hope to future patients facing similar diagnoses.
Each year, Sharon and her family host the "It's Nice to Meet Me" Memorial Golf Outing in New Lenox, Illinois, raising funds for the Wills Eye Foundation dedicated to ocular oncology research and care. The annual event brings together more than 100 golfers, along with family, friends, and supporters, all united by a shared commitment to advancing care for patients with ocular cancer.
Through the generosity of everyone involved, the outing has become a lasting tribute to Sean's life while helping fuel innovation in ocular oncology at Wills Eye. Sharon's dedication reflects the profound impact that families can have when they transform gratitude and remembrance into action.
By honoring Sean's legacy in this way, the O'Neill family is helping ensure that, for years to come, Wills Eye physicians will continue to advance research, improve treatments, and provide compassionate care for patients facing ocular cancer.
