Empowering Children Through Clear Vision
Give Kids Sight Day (GKSD) is Wills Eye Hospital’s signature community outreach event, offering free vision screenings, eye exams, and prescription glasses to underserved children across Philadelphia and its surrounding suburbs.

Held annually at Wills Eye Hospital, this life-changing event helps ensure that children aged 17 and under—many of whom have failed school vision screenings—receive timely, high-quality eye care. For children diagnosed with more serious eye conditions, we schedule follow-up care and connect families with social workers to help them navigate next steps.

Why It Matters
Vision problems in childhood can derail academic achievement and emotional well-being. Early diagnosis is essential, yet access to follow-up care remains out of reach for many families. Give Kids Sight Day (GKSD) removes that barrier by providing free vision screenings, glasses, and referrals to underserved children. Since 2009, GKSD has delivered measurable impact: over 14,000 children screened, nearly 10,000 outfitted with two pairs of prescription glasses, and nearly 3,000 referred for follow-up care. This community-driven initiative delivers high-value outcomes—restoring vision, supporting learning, and helping kids thrive.
