Free Vision Care for Children at Give Kids Sight Day 2024
Uninsured and underinsured children can receive eye screenings and glasses prescriptions
PHILADELPHIA, September 10, 2024 – Wills Eye Hospital will host its 15th annual Give Kids Sight Day on Saturday, September 28. This initiative allows uninsured and underinsured children in the Greater Philadelphia area to get access to vision care including eye glass prescriptions.
Parents and guardians can sign their child up for a free vision screening appointment by visiting https://www.willseye.org/give-kids-sight-day/ and registering by the September 23 deadline. Walk-ins are also welcome day-of.
Children ages 6 – 17 from Philadelphia and surrounding counties who have not had, or who have not passed, an eye screening will be seen by volunteer eye screeners. Those who do not pass the onsite screening will receive a same-day vision exam and eyeglasses prescription. Kids will pick out two free glasses frames courtesy of the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation, which will then be made to their specific prescription and available for pickup at a separate event later this fall.
The event is hosted in partnership with Thomas Jefferson University, the School District of Philadelphia, and the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation. Special thanks go to the Joan and Joseph Garde Family Fund for Children and Susan Moul for their support of the Give Kids Sight Day initiative.
Wills Eye Hospital provides this free service regardless of the insurance status of children and families. Since 2009, more than 11,000 children have received free eye care services through Give Kids Sight Day.
