Vitiligo Associated With Greater Risk of Several Ocular Pathologies

Wills Eye Cornea surgeon Rahul Tonk, MD was a member of a team of researchers who examined whether vitiligo, or the destruction of melanocytes, in the eyes increases the risk of vision-threatening conditions. The researchers analyzed TriNetX data from April 2005 to April 2025 to study the link between vitiligo and such pathologies to determine how to adjust early screening and interdisciplinary care.Their findings suggest systemic autoimmune involvement and highlight the importance of regular ocular surveillance in this population.
