In Memoriam – Jack Farber

IN MEMORIAM
Jack Farber (June 18, 1933–December 7, 2022)

All of us in the Wills Eye Hospital family are saddened by news of the passing of Jack Farber, whose singular philanthropy in partnership with his wife Vickie has had a transformative impact on vision research and the treatment of eye disease.

With their combined gifts of $7 million, the Farbers funded the creation of the Vickie and Jack Farber Vision Research Center, which today is the home for virtually all the groundbreaking vision research conducted at Wills. The Center’s impact is nothing short of remarkable, expanding Wills’ research initiatives in data mining and analytics, tele-ophthalmology and community-based research, while also supporting the creation of a new clinical trials unit.

For all his business and philanthropic accomplishments, however, Jack Farber was a humble man who preferred to live a quiet life out of the public spotlight. In doing so, Jack understood that, as another great Philadelphian once said, “Well done is better than well said.”

Jack’s life is a testament to the power of good deeds, and the entire Wills Eye family mourns his passing and extends our deepest sympathies to Vickie, daughter Ellen, and the entire Farber Family.
