Ophthalmology Update for Peds, PCP, and AHP – January 12, 2019

Course Description
This course is designed to update the pediatrician, primary care family physician, and allied health professional on common ocular problems in the pediatric age group.  Emphasis will be on techniques for vision screening to diagnose amblyopia and strabismus. Participants will be given hands-on instruction on the proper use of the ophthalmoscope when performing eye exams.  Diagnosis and treatment of common eye disorders in children will be discussed.

At the conclusion of the course, participants should be able to:

  • Determine the cause of red eye in a child based upon history and clinical examination
  • Demonstrate an improved ability to recognize and treat conjunctivitis in children
  • Detect amblyopia and strabismus in children with vision screening at the appropriate age
