Dr. Thomas Lamson was born and raised in Tully, New York before completing his undergraduate degree in Physics with a minor in Chemistry at St. John’s University in Queens, New York. He then obtained his medical education at Stony Brook University. Afterwards, he completed his internship and rigorous ophthalmology residency at the combined Georgetown and Washington Hospital Center program in Washington, DC. Following that, Dr. Lamson pursued a fellowship in Academic Global Ophthalmology at Wills Eye. Throughout his fellowship, Dr. Lamson travelled internationally multiple times to provide cataract surgery and other eye care to some of the poorest communities in the world.
Dr. Lamson will begin his role as Director of the Wills Eye Emergency Room and Ophthalmology Consult Service at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in August 2025. He will also be treating patients and performing cataract surgery as a member of the Wills Eye Cataract and Primary Eye Care Service. Dr. Lamson is excited to apply the lessons that he has learned from around the world to his patients in Philadelphia.
