Karine Shebaclo, MD, MSc

Biography

Dr. Shebaclo completed her internship at Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL and her Ophthalmology Residency at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC.

Dr. Shebaclo is a proud undergraduate from the Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, where she earned one of the university’s highest honors through the Science, Technology, and International Affairs (STIA) program. She graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service. Following her undergraduate studies, she pursued a master’s degree in international health economics and social policy at the London School of Economics (LSE). While in London, she had the privilege of working at the House of Lords within Parliament.

She then returned home to Washington, DC to complete her medical degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine, where she also stayed for her ophthalmology residency. Dr. Shebaclo was honored to be selected by her peers and supervisors as Chief Resident and was also recognized with the Ocular Innovation and Silver Pearl teaching awards.

Following residency, she was selected to complete the prestigious ASOPRS-accredited fellowship in oculofacial plastic and orbital surgery at Wills Eye Hospital, under fellowship director, Dr. Mary Stefanyszyn, a worldwide expert on thyroid eye disease and orbital surgery. During this intensive fellowship, Dr. Shebaclo participated in thousands of surgeries, ranging from cosmetic facial procedures to complex orbital trauma, and periorbital reconstruction. In addition to her clinical practice, she serves as an Assistant Professor at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University and as a faculty instructor for residents at Wills Eye Hospital. Her academic commitment remains strong, as she continues to engage in research and multidisciplinary studies to advance the field. Aside from her native English, Dr. Shebaclo speaks three foreign languages including Spanish, Arabic, and French.
