Dr. Pao’s research interest is in medical instrumentation. He holds six U.S patents for medical instruments used in both ophthalmic and other fields of microsurgery and developed numerous instruments used routinely in the operating room and the diagnostic laboratory. The best known are the bipolar cautery probe for control od small vessel bleeding and the electrophysiology system (ERG/EOG/VEP) that measures electrical signals from the retina and the brain’s occipital cortex.
