Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure where a device with tiny needles creates controlled micro-injuries in the skin to stimulate the body's natural healing response, leading to increased collagen and elastin production. This process, which is safe for most skin types, helps to improve skin concerns such as acne scars, fine lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores, and hyperpigmentation, resulting in firmer, smoother skin.
The treatment is performed in the office using a specialized device such as dermaroller or an electric microneedling pen, with sterile, single-use needles to ensure safety. The micro injuries cause the skin to respond by producing more collagen and elastin, which are essential proteins for skin structure and elasticity. The increase in collagen and elastin helps to strengthen the underlying skin structure, leading to improvement in the texture, tone, and firmness of the skin.

Microneedling is a 30 minute treatment. A numbing cream is usually applied to the skin before the procedure to minimize discomfort. You may feel pressure or vibration but not sharpness as the needles are applied. Following the procedure, you may experience redness similar to a mild sunburn or swelling for 24-48 hours, followed by temporary tightness or flaking for 1-2 days. Initially, the treated skin will be sensitive, so no sun, pools, or intense workouts for 48 hours.
