Plastic surgery is the branch of medicine concerned with reshaping or reconstructing certain features of the human body. The Oculoplastics Service at Wills Eye deals with reshaping the area in and around the eye. Oculoplastic surgery is often performed to correct or treat a medical condition or an injury. It is also done for cosmetic purposes. The Oculoplastic Service is concerned specifically with the eyelids, the orbit (the bone around the eye), and the lacrimal system (the tear duct system).

The Oculoplastic Medical Staff at Wills Eye is made up of highly skilled plastic surgeons who are board-certified ophthalmologists. Many of them are also fellows of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

They have expertise in reconstructive as well as cosmetic plastic surgery. They also perform chemical peels around the eye or on the face when combined with cosmetic eye surgery. New techniques are now being investigated in the treatment of diseases of the lacrimal system. In addition, several studies are in progress to investigate alloplastic materials, and reconstruction of the orbit.
