TRAFFIC ADVISORY:

President Trump is scheduled to be in Philadelphia on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at The National Constitution Center (NCC) in the Independence Mall area. Increased police presence is anticipated in Center City throughout Tuesday afternoon and evening. Please allow extra time if you are going to Wills Eye. Please be advised of area street closures to vehicles beginning at 1:00PM on Tuesday 9/15. Pedestrian access will also be limited in the area. This is subject to change and area restrictions, which could widen, will be lifted once the President departs the NCC. There are also demonstrations planned for Tuesday 9/15 around Independence Mall as well as City Avenue.

Wills Doctors Honored for Excellence in Education

Wills Eye Doctors receive Awards for Excellence in EducationPHILADELPHIA, PA - Wills Eye Hospital is pleased to announce that three Wills ophthalmologists were honored with the Award for Excellence in Education by the Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University.

Mark Blecher, MD

Sonia Mehta, MD

Dr. Blecher is Co-Director of the Cataract and Primary Eye Care Service. He is the proud recipient of the Golden Apple award from the residents of Wills Eye for teaching, and the Silver Tray award from the Wills Eye Alumni Society for service to the Hospital. Dr. Blecher has remained active teaching surgeons and residents, as well as presenting papers and giving instructional courses at the American Academy of Ophthalmology annual meeting.

Dr. Garg is an attending physician on the Wills Eye Retina Service. He is Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and American Academy of Ophthalmology, and is an active member of the Retina Society, the Macula Society, the American Society of Retinal Specialists, the Pennsylvania Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Uveitis Society and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. He is past president of the Greater Philadelphia Ophthalmic Society.

Dr. Mehta is an attending physician on the Wills Eye Retina Service and Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Sidney Kimmel Medical College. Dr. Mehta is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Retina Specialists, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, American Medical Association, and Pennsylvania Medical Society. She has authored numerous articles and book chapters on vitreoretinal diseases and has lectured and taught instructional courses at ophthalmology meetings, both nationally and abroad. She is also author of Step-Up to the USMLE Step 1, among the best-selling medical textbooks, now in its fifth edition.
