Foerderer Center

(215) 928-3149

The Foerderer Center for the Study of Eye Movement Disorders in Children, located at Wills Eye, is devoted exclusively to the diagnosis, study and treatment of abnormal vision and eye movement in infants, young children and adults. The Center, established in 1985 through a generous bequest from the estate of Ethel Brown Foerderer is a unique serviceÑone of only a handful in the nation.

The staff consists of a pediatric ophthalmologist and a basic scientist who assists in the studies and conducts ongoing basic research. The Center also includes ophthalmic fellows with a special interest in eye movement disorders. (Fellows are medical doctors who have specialized in a particular field, such as ophthalmology, and have chosen to spend additional years to train further in a subspecialization.)

The highly computerized service also conducts objective vision tests for preverbal children with remarkably reliable results, as well as sensory and visual perception tests which generate valuable information concerning central nervous system disorders.
