The Cataract and Primary Eye Care (CPEC) Service is the hub of Wills Eye. Approximately 22,000 patients are seen each year. Wills Eye physicians perform routine eye exams and refer any serious complications to one of the subspecialty services. Each year thousands of patients also undergo cataract surgery at Wills Eye, benefiting from the experience of world-class surgeons consistently rated as America's best.
Specifically, the CPEC Service cares provides:
- Comprehensive eye examinations
- Cataract screenings and surgery
- Vision screenings
- Refractive surgery
- Contact lens examinations
- Consultations with subspecialists in ophthalmology (such as neuro-ophthalmology)
- Referrals to specialists in other medical disciplines (such as endocrinologists for persons with diabetes)
The Service has nearly two dozen fully equipped examining rooms, staffed by highly trained resident physicians under the supervision of staff physicians on the CPEC Service.
Examination is by appointment only. We believe that a complete eye examination requires time (about two hours) if it is to be done thoroughly. Therefore, please make sure that you allow adequate time in your schedule. Also, if you have any questions or concerns about insurance coverage, please feel free to call our office.
Sunglasses are advised for use after a routine examination, so you may want to bring a pair with you.
