Contact Lenses
Patients with keratoconus or after corneal trauma or surgery often have diminished vision from irregular corneas. These patients cannot obtain good visual acuity with glasses, because of the distorted corneal surface. Contact lenses aid in smoothing the distortion. Rigid gas permeable contact lenses provide a regular surface over the irregular cornea so that light coming into the eye is more clearly focused on the retina.
We do not participate with vision programs, as we generally treat patients with medical conditions in the eye. Unfortunately, very few insurance companies have coverage policies for contact lens fittings for keratoconous under their medical coverage. If you have questions about coverage for this service, you can contact your insurance company, or our billing manager at 215-928-3173.
