RK/AK (radial and astigmatic keratotomy)
RK for nearsightedness and AK for astigmatism are refractive surgery procedures that have been around for years. A diamond blade is used to create deep incisions in the cornea to reshape it.
While generally safe and effective for low degrees of correction, these procedures weaken the eye so they are more susceptible to trauma and long-term refractive changes.
