The LASIK Treatment
At Wills Eye, the primary laser vision correction procedure we perform is called LASIK, which stands for laser in-situ keratomileusis. LASIK is the most comfortable procedure for the patient, and requires the greatest skill from the surgeon.
In a LASIK procedure, the surgeon first creates a thin "flap" of corneal tissue. Then, following carefully calculated measurements, the cool laser beam is used to reshape the cornea to the ideal curvature. Finally, the flap is repositioned to act as a natural "bandage" that improves results and speeds recovery.
The procedure itself is over in a short period of time and most patients spend the remainder of the day resting. By the next day, most are already enjoying greatly improved vision without lenses and without pain.
