Anterior Uveitis (Iritis)

Uveitis refers to inflammation of the uvea, the middle layer of the eye. The iris (or colored part of the eye) is the front portion of this layer, and when it becomes inflamed patients develop "iritis", or anterior uveitis. The main symptom of iritis is usually light sensitivity, but patients may also notice blurring, dull and achy pains, and redness. There are many causes of iritis including trauma, infections such as Shingles or Herpes, and auto-immune disorders.
